Trustee to Receive
Health Award
Gilroy – Rhoda Bress, a Gilroy Unified School District board member, will receive an award from the South County Collaborative Community Nutrition and Health Committee at 7:30pm during Thursday’s board meeting.
The meeting will be staged at the new Gilroy High School student center. The annual award is presented to individuals or agencies demonstrating excellence and leadership in improving the nutrition, health and fitness of south Santa Clara County.
Bress’ effort and leadership has lead to the development of the GUSD Wellness Policy. The policy addresses eight components of coordinated school health including: physical education, nutrition services, health services, safe and healthy school environment, parent and community involvement, health promotion for staff and psychological and counseling services.
These components will create a school environment that is conducive to healthy behaviors, academic achievement and an improved quality of life for GUSD students and staff, according to a SCCCNH statement. The committee is co-chaired by Saint Louise Regional Medical Center and the Santa Clara County Public Health Department.
