12 SVJH Tigers win section titles
SAN JOSE – South Valley Wrestlers dominated the Santa Clara County East Sectional Wrestling Championships Tuesday night held at Andrew Hill High School in San Jose placing 14 wrestlers in the finals.

The top six wrestlers in each weight class represented the best from all the schools in the three districts that make up the East Section. The top two wrestlers last night now qualify to participate in the Santa Clara County Championship Finals to be held at Andrew Hill High School on Thursday beginning at 5:00 p.m.

The Tigers ended the evening with 12 champions and two second-place finishers. Champions included 70-pounder Justin Ochoa, who pinned his opponent from Quimby Oaks. At 75 pounds, Lucas Alessi bested his opponent from Bret Harte by a technical fall, scoring 15-0. At 80 pounds, Rodney Balajadia beat his opponent from Bret Harte with a score of 12-0 and 85-pounder Martin Gonzales pinned his opponent from Mathson.

Frank Gonzalez won his 105-pound match against his Boeger opponent with a score of 10-0 and Ethan Ogle won his 110-pound match 13-0 over his opponent from Hermann. At 120 pounds, Michael Penyaczek beat his Ley Va opponent 14-0 and, at 125 pounds, Jason Romesberg beat his opponent from Ocala, 5-2.

In the upper weights, Jacob Dexter beat his opponent from Ley Va with a score of 11-0, while Nick Vargas pinned his opponent from Quimby Oaks at 145 pounds. At 165 pounds, Hunter Collins beat his opponent from Davis by technical fall with a score of 17-0 and Jeremy Sabla finished the evening by quickly pinning his opponent from Sheppard.

Second-place finishes were turned in by John Hultzman at 90 pounds and John Grifall at 155 pounds.

South Valley Middle School’s Tiger wrestlers had another great night on the mat and hope to continue with Thursday’s County Championships at Andrew Hill High School as well.
