Dorman was born in Kendrick, ID on Oct. 4, 1915.
After leaving home, he first went to work as a Lumberman in Idaho, and later learned how to weld. During WWII he was assigned to Marin Shipyards for the construction of the Liberty Ships; being promoted to Superintendent before the end of the war. After the war, Dorman worked for Bechtel Corp. for many years in the U.S. and Canada. He also helped form the Pipeliners Local Union 798, in which he is still a member in good standing with 65 years to his credit. He was also a life member of the NRA and spent much time and gave sizeable contributions to the preservation of our Constitutional 2nd Amendment Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Dorman was also a long-standing member of the Local Antique Car Club, Valle Del Sur, and delighted in driving his 1965 Mustang in car tours and showing it off in exhibitions.
Dorman is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Eleanor; his son, Robert (also a member of Local 798 and an NRA Benefactor Member); his daughter-in-law, Sheryl; his niece Diane (Howard) Holt; nephew, Randy (Linda) Sundstrom of Idaho; and his nieces and nephews, Judy and Bob Adams, Richard and Alma Alber, Chris and Ron Nichols, and Bill & Peggy Speegle.
Visitation will be on Wed., Aug. 17, 2011, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Road in Morgan Hill. A Service for Dorman will take place on Thurs., Aug. 18, 2011, at 10:00 A.M., also at the above mentioned funeral home. Interment to follow at Oak Hill Memorial Park in San Jose, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorman’s memory to the NRA (contact Robert for donation info.) or the American Cancer Society (since Sheryl is a cancer survivor.)
