Dorothy June Byers Scagliotti, born in Gilroy, died Wednesday,
Sept. 24, 2003, in Oceanside at the age of 79 after a long
illness.
Dorothy June Byers Scagliotti, born in Gilroy, died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Oceanside at the age of 79 after a long illness.

She was the oldest twin born to Maurice and Dorothy Byers, of Gilroy. She graduated from Gilroy High School and went on to O’Connor’s Nursing School, San Jose. For many years she was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Gilroy. Between 1953 and 57 she was very active in the Gymkanna Days.

She is survived by her four children: Donald Goodwin, of Ione, Diane Goodwin, of Oceanside, Deborah Goodwin-Carlos, of Gilroy, and Richard Scagliotti, of Hollister; her grandchildren: Dawn Soza and Wendy Reed, both of Hollister, John T. Reed Jr., of Annapolis, Md., Karen Goodwin Allen, of Alameda, Donald Hugh Goodwin, of San Jose, Scott Knudsen and Sean Herriott, of Oceanside, and David and Ryan Scagliotti of Hollister; eight great-grandchildren; and sisters: Maurice Byers Jr., of Florence, Ore., Joanne Byers DeLozier, of Santa Clara, and the late Jeanne Byers Smith.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Her first ex-husband, Donald Goodwin preceded her death in 1979 and her second ex-husband, Richard Scagliotti, preceded her in death in 1985. Dorothy’s favorite things were the beach at Capitola, gardening, painting, singing and sewing; But her real favorite thing was her family. They were everything to her.

“Dottie,” as she was known to her friends, was always a good hostess and enjoyed entertaining her friends and family. She will be missed by her entire family.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Entombment will follow at the Gavilan Hills Memorial Park, Gilroy.
