A San Jose man who was driving on a private road in Aromas and reportedly talking on a cell phone, was struck and killed Thursday afternoon by a train at an unmarked crossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 41-year-old was driving a a Honda Civic at 4:30 p.m. on private property when he was struck by a southbound Union Pacific train. Witnesses said he was on his cell phone before the accident.
The car was pushed off the tracks and into a dirt area, where witnesses tried to help the victim, who died after being treated by emergency workers at the scene. 
CHP officials said drugs or alcohol didn’t appear to be a factor in the accident.
