Q: Why is the sky blue?

A: When sunlight passes through the Earth’s atmosphere, the colors in the light – red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple – are scattered in different ways by particles in the air. Blue and purple are deflected the most, and they tend to scatter all over the sky. The human eye can see blue much more readily than purple, so it’s blue that we see when we look up.
