Forgo the usual gift of tie or electronic gadget for Father’s Day this year.

Instead, head to Monterey Street between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on June 20 to pick out something that has stood the test of time.

Antique glassware, enamelware, collectible figurines, old tools, old farm equipment, furniture, musical instruments, old linens, old cookware, old utensils, jewelry, artwork, silver coins and military paraphernalia are just some of the items available at the Annual Father’s Day Antique and Collectibles Street Faire.

Dave Peoples of The Nimble Thimble said many dads enjoy collecting antiques.

“You’d be surprised at how many (dads) are into antiques,” he said.

Even so, Father’s Day was not the main motivation for the fair.

“Collectors are collectors,” Peoples said. “It’s June, the weather is good. It’s an excuse for having a street faire.”

If dad is not a collectible figurine-type guy, he can have a pepper steak or tri-tip sandwich, both available at the fair.

Soda and snowcones will also be on hand, as well as a bounce house for kids.

About a hundred antique vendors from all over the country will bring their wares.

Certified appraisals will be available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The first appraisal is free while subsequent items can be appraised for a small fee.

In previous years, the turnout has numbered between 8,000 to 10,000 people.
