The Dispatch editorial earlier this week missed the major issue
of the votes against the Future Farmers of America field trip.
Instead of criticizing the two board members for voting against the
trip based on an incomplete application, you should be admonishing
the other board members for not requiring the administration to
follow current procedure.

The Dispatch editorial earlier this week missed the major issue of the votes against the Future Farmers of America field trip. Instead of criticizing the two board members for voting against the trip based on an incomplete application, you should be admonishing the other board members for not requiring the administration to follow current procedure.
The liability associated with such a field trip is enormous, and not requiring supervisors to follow procedures opens GUSD up to liability exposure. The application does not ask for “adult chaperones,” such as the personal friend and relative that were listed, but “parent chaperones.” How could the administration allow this application to be presented to the board with no time to resolve any issues?
Voting against the trip was the responsible thing to do under the circumstances. I do not call asking the administration to follow procedures “micromanagement.” And jeers to The Dispatch for trying to make this an FFA issue. All groups should be held to the same standard.
