Vegetation fire at Frazier Lake Road and Bloomfield Avenue

Crews from the Gilroy and Morgan Hill Fire Departments, South Santa Clara Fire District and Calfire responded to a roughly 40-acre vegetation fire at Frazier Lake Road and Bloomfield Avenue in Gilroy this afternoon. At around 3:30 p.m. firefighters were working on “cutting off the head,” or containing the head of the fire, according to an employee from Treehaven station on Hecker Pass Road.

A helicopter was also on scene releasing fire retardant over the cut hay field.

As of 3:45 p.m. crews were still working to snuff out the flames, which continued to kick up again due to strong wind gusts. The fire was completely out a little before 4 p.m.

Fire Captain Jim Rajskup of Calfire said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
