HAYWARD – It was all smiles and plenty of winning for the Silicon Valley Glory 13U girls softball team this past weekend at the USSSA September Bash Tournament as the girls went undefeated to bring home the first-place hardware.
The team, made up of girls from Gilroy and Morgan Hill, played three games Saturday and three games Sunday.
Starting pitchers Lauren Castro and Holly Lam were dominant in the circle for the Glory, surrendering just seven runs in 31 innings pitched over the two-day event.
The Glory breezed through its first game of the tournament, handing the Plesanton Phantom a 13-0 shellacking before eeking out tight victories against the Diablo Panthers and the Tracy Liberty, 2-0 and 1-0, respectively.
The Glory polished off the Panthers again in a single-elimination game Sunday to reach the semifinals where they battled to a 2-1 triumph over the Santa Rosa Victory.
The championship game proved to be much easier for the Glory, prevailing 9-2 over the San Jose Strikkers. Holly Lam was credited with the win, pitching all seven innings for the Glory. Brittney Souza had three hits – finishing the weekend batting .667 (8-12) – and Rylie Ellis, Mac Mitchell and Dejah Raoof all produced a pair of base-knocks for the Glory.
