TENNIS: Alisal sweeps doubles play in 5-2 win over Christopher

Game time is slated for a 6 p.m. start at Live Oak’s Richert
Field in Morgan Hill.
Last year’s season opener between Christopher and Sobrato featured eight seniors.

On Saturday, upwards of 40 12th graders will suit up as the Cougars and Bulldogs christen their 2011 campaigns at Live Oak’s Richert Field in Morgan Hill.

“They have plenty of talent, a lot of talent,” Sobrato coach Nick Borello said. “Every starter, unless they didn’t come out again or got hurt, is back. Luckily, we’re in the same boat.”

Similar to CHS, Sobrato returns a wealth of players in key spots – 19 who started last year. None more important than bruising fullback Obi Mbonu, who posted 103 rushing yards in last year’s contest. Quarterback Jerry Jacob, running back Drew Glines and receiver Steven Villareal are all back as well.

“Sobrato is a very good football team,” CHS head coach Tim Pierleoni said. “We are going to have to come to play.”

The Bulldogs spoiled the Cougars’ varsity debut in 2010, leading by four scores at the half en route to claiming a 28-10 victory in Gilroy.

“We want redemption from last year,” CHS senior linebacker Dillon Babb said. “We have been working all summer. We should be ready for them. We all feel pretty comfortable. We all know what we can do. I feel like we have a good team this year.”

Game time is slated for a 6 p.m. start.

n The junior varsity game is scheduled for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
