Omaha Nighthawks quarterback Jeff Garica donated $10,000 to The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in Omaha, according to a press release from the Nighthawks on Thursday.
The donation will go toward Kroc Center memberships, which will allow for children to use the facility as a learning center as well as a place to participate in athletic activities.
“I am very grateful and thankful for The Salvation Army Kroc Center and all that they do for their community in Omaha and for the Omaha Nighthawks,” Garcia said in the release. “Just being able to see the influence the Kroc Center has on children and their families was awesome. It gives them a safe haven to study, learn and participate in daily activities and consequently encourages a positive outlook on their daily lives.”
During the season, the Kroc Center was used as the Nighthawks’ training facility, hosting meals, meetings and practices, the release stated.
Garcia led the expansion United Football League Nighthawks to a 3-5 record in 2010, playing in front of sold out crowds at all four home games in Rosenblatt Stadium.
The Nighthawks began the season 3-1 before hitting a midseason skid, dropping their final four games of the eight-game season.
