Gilroy High football travels to Salinas tonight to take on Everett Alvarez in a rare Thursday tilt at 7:30 p.m.
With Salinas schools out of session Friday, the two teams agreed to play on Thursday night. It’s a different day, but for the Mustangs, the objective remains the same – notch their first Monterey Bay League Gabilan Division win.
In fact, the Eagles (0-5 overall, 0-1 league), too, are chomping at the bit for victory No. 1.
GHS gained more than 300 yards of offense in its loss to Monterey last week, but seven turnovers overshadowed progress.
• Senior Brendan Holler, who had 240 yards of offense last week, will continue to be the focal point of the Mustangs offense. His versatility and breakout speed provide plenty of options. More times than not, Holler is potentially one block from breaking a big gainer.
• In the teams’ previous three meetings, the Mustangs have won two. The loss came in 2010.
• The Mustangs have given up 1,672 rushing yards this season. Alvarez runs an effective option attack. Eliminating big plays will again be key for GHS.
