a 34-6 win over Salinas last Friday.

Gilroy High School’s junior varsity football team recovered from its first defeat and opened Tri-County Athletic League action with a 34-6 win over Salinas last Friday.
Sophomore Dante Fullard scored two touchdowns and had an interception during the second half for the Mustangs (4-1), who also got a second-half interception from Tony Travis during the second half. Ryan Brown and Juan Delgado each scored touchdowns.
“Ryan Brown has played really well,” said head coach Jack Daley.
Sophomore running back Richie Sotelo had a touchdown in the first quarter.
“Richie has been our most consistent running back,” said Daley.
The JV football team plays at Everett Alvarez High School at 11:30am Saturday.
The undefeated GHS girls’ JV water polo team came from behind to defeat Notre Dame High School 4-2 for their third TCAL win.
“The girls started slow, but they fought back to even it up and win,” said head coach Andy Been.
Janae Launce opened up the scoring for the Mustangs. Katrina Gorman scored twice and Alex Marshall added one goal.
The boys JV water polo team lost 7-4 to Palma, but outscored the Chieftains 4-3 after falling behind 4-0 after one quarter.
“We got better as the game wore on,” coach Tom Clark said.
The JV girls’ field hockey game scheduled for Monday against York was canceled. The Mustangs will play at 3:30pm Monday against Robert Louis Stevenson at Gilroy High School.
Gilroy’s JV girls’ volleyball team started well but lost to North Salinas 25-22, 25-11.
“They are still a new team,” said assistant coach Matt Largo. “They played good the first game, but in the second the defense died out.”
The GHS freshmen beat the Vikings 25-14, 25-13.
