Fortino Winery has won two prestigious Schott Zwiesel Silver Awards for its 2005 Charbono and the 2005 Carignan; their 2005 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has once again been honored with the Schott Bronze Award.
“As a winemaker, it’s a strong affirmation of our winemaking philosophy to craft affordable, ready-to-drink premium wines,” said Gino Fortino, fourth-generation winemaker and co-owner of the winery with his sister Teri.
Local teacher becomes student
Most days, Kevin Easton is the educator, helping Gilroy’s young people build skills in mathematics, reading, phonics and other important subjects. Recently, the tables were turned at Huntington’s annual meeting, which schooled Huntington educators from all across America in curriculum and instructional updates to meet emerging student needs and the latest “best practices” for helping students achieve top scores on the most up-to-date versions of the SAT and ACT.
“While we focus first and foremost on building the skills and motivation to meet today’s demanding academic standards, we also strive to instill and strengthen a lifelong love of learning,” said Kevin Easton, operator of Huntington Learning Center of Gilroy, located at 737 First St.
Chamber award deadline nears
The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce invites local businesses to apply for its Sustainable Quality Awards program. SQA applications and all relevant materials are due to the chamber office by 5 p.m. March 7.
The Sustainable Quality Awards recognize businesses and organizations which engage in practices that demonstrate their stewardship to the natural environment, social responsibility and economic sustainability.
