Host Buchanan and Clovis are 1-2 in the team standings with the Mustangs third, trailing the Cougars by two points. Four GHS wrestlers are in the semifinals, and five others are alive in the consolations.
Freshman Jesse Delgado, 103, went 2-0, pinning both opponents; Martin Gonzalez, 119, went 3-0; Austin Gubrud, 145, went 2-0, and Hunter Collins, 171, went 2-0, pinning both of his opponents.
GHS wrestlers advancing to the consolations are freshman Rodney Balajadia, 112, who went 3-1; Rudy Maldonado, 125, who went 2-1; Fabian Laredo, 152, who went 3-1; Ethan Ogle, 160, who went 3-1; and Jesse Rodgers, 215, who went 3-1.
Other mustangs who competed were freshman Vincent Aboytes, 2-2 at 135; freshman Luis Barragan, 0-2 at 285; and Travis Sakamoto, 2-0 at 140.
“We are very pleased with our performance considering we brought four freshmen, and we had two section champions (Nicolo Naranjo and Andres Barragan) and a state qualifier (Chris Krough) who did not wrestle,” GHS coach Armando Gonzalez said.
