Gilroy just got one more reason to cheer for hometown hero Jeff
Garcia.
Every touchdown the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and Gilroy
native throws for the rest of the regular season will be helping to
fund one of the area’s most important youth sports organizations:
Gilroy Browns Pop Warner.
Realizing how tough times have gotten to raise money during the
current economic crisis, Stubby’s Sports Bar
&
amp; Grill owner John Steiber recently decided to pitch in by
asking customers if they were interested in making a donation for
each touchdown Garcia pitches in the month of December.

Realizing how tough times have gotten to raise money during the current economic crisis, Stubby’s Sports Bar & Grill owner John Steiber recently decided to pitch in by asking customers if they were interested in making a donation for each touchdown Garcia pitches in the month of December.
As of kickoff for the Monday Night Football game between Tampa Bay and Carolina, Steiber has garnered a pledge total of $237.60 per touchdown pass.
“As a former Monterey and Gilroy Pop Warner coach, I definitely have incentive to assist a program I believe in so whole-heartedly,” Steiber said.
“I sat and considered creative ways to generate more funds, and it dawned on me that if every customer who walked in pledged a nickel, a quarter or whatever they thought they could afford, we could make a difference. It seemed natural to use a local hero like Jeff Garcia, who is quietly having another possible Pro Bowl year.”
Steiber will continue accepting donations throughout the month.
Entering Monday night’s game, Garcia had 1,902 yards passing and eight touchdowns to just three interceptions.
Every touchdown pass dropped by a Buccaneer will undoubtedly make Garcia supporters groan. Not supporting local youth sports, however, would amount to fans of the Browns and Garcia dropping the ball.
Anyone interested in making a contribution for each Jeff Garcia touchdown pass or flat donation can do so by going to Stubby’s (707 1st St, Gilroy, CA 95020) or calling John Steiber at (408) 848-3455.
