– Keep these tips in mind during February to help prepare your garden for spring.

– If some of your plants have been bitten by frost, leave the foliage alone. By not trimming it, the plant will be protected from another bout of frost. New growth in the spring will indicate when it is safe to prune.

– Feed winter-blooming plants as well as your lawn.

– Winter-bedding plants will ad a shower of color to your garden. Plant pansies, primroses, violas, Iceland poppies, snapdragon and stock.

– You can still plant bare-root fruit trees, berries and asparagus this month.

– Prune roses, fruit trees, grape and berry vines for a more bountiful harvest.

– Choose your summer shade now! Plant trees in the garden.

– The camellia is as versatile as it is handsome. Grow them as espaliers, natural-shaped shrubs, hedges or trees.
