Local swim team has tons of success at ’03 Bishop Invite
BISHOP – Twenty-seven swimmers of the Gilroy Gators Swim Team made the long journey June 27-29 with their families and head coach Tom Clark to participate in the 2003 Bishop Invitational in Bishop. With a total of 351 competitors, the Gilroy Gators swam hard and took home four high point first place trophies, and three second place high point trophies.
High points winners were: Isabella Comin, 11, with eight gold medals and one silver; Kaitlyn Lass, 13, with seven gold medals and two silver medals; Santiago Maciel, 15, with 12 gold medals; and Stacey Lass, 16, with seven gold medals and three silver medals.
Second place high point finishers were: seven-year-old Kimberly Davis with one gold, four silvers and four bronzes; Julianna Sih, 16, with five golds and one silver; and Eric Watkins with three golds and two silvers.
Gilroy Gator swimmers competing for the first time in Bishop were Margarita Garcia, 9, who won all her heats, and Allita Watkins, 6, who finished fifth overall.
At the conclusion of Saturday’s events, there was a paretn/coach free relay. Gators took fourth place with some great parent swimmers – Ray ‘The Man’ Shileds, ‘Killer’ Karen Davis, Scott ‘WAWA’ Castruita and John ‘Speedo’ Colette. This is the third year the Gilroy Gators have been invited to participate in the meet and will no doubt be back next year.
The Gators next swim meet will be on Saturday, July 12 at 9 a.m. in the Gilroy High School pool.
