Despite trailing 11 points at the break, the Gavilan women’s basketball team didn’t give up.Â
The Rams hung tough, being outscored by only four points in the second half. Unfortunately for Gavilan, its second-half surge wouldn’t be enough as the team would fall 54-39 at home Friday.Â
The loss is the sixth straight for the struggling Rams, who haven’t won a game since Dec. 5, a 52-48 decision over Yuba. But a bright spot for Gavilan is the consistent stellar play of Andreinna Casteneda.Â
Casteneda came off the bench to score 11 points for Gavilan, which included going 4 for 6 from the line and sinking a 3-pointer. She also added 10 rebounds, four blocks, two steals and an assist for Gavilan.Â
Gavilan (1-11) will look to rebound against Foothill College at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home. This game marks the start of conference play.Â

Mauricio Medrano put up 17 points for Gavilan, but it wasn’t enough to lift it past Columbia.Â
The Rams dropped their last game of the preseason, a 67-45 decision, to the visiting Columbia College Saturday. The loss is the team’s eight straight.
Medrano’s double-digit performance led the team and added four rebounds and three assists. Kelli Goodman posted nine points and two rebounds.
The Rams (1-10) will kick off conference play at 5 p.m. Wednesday against San Jose City College — the first of a double-header at Gavilan, with the women playing at 7 p.m.Â
