William Lee made a habit of creating havoc in opposing backfields this season.
It’s led to a long list of awards for the Gavilan College freshman defensive lineman.
Lee was recently voted the Rams’ team Most Valuable Player by teammates, and received all-region honors in the Northern California Football Association on Friday, Gavilan head coach Spencer Gilford said.
Lee recorded 80 tackles, including 70 solo and 31 for loss, along with 9.5 sacks and three forced fumbles for the Rams (3-7).
“And he has not reached his full potential yet,” Gilford said.
Gilford said he knew the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Lee had potential “the first time” he watched him on film.
“He’s a tremendous athlete with some special abilities,” Gilford said.
Gavilan wide receiver Bobby Guyton and return specialist Marcus Harrell also received all-region honors Friday, Gilford said.
Guyton shared the team’s Offensive MVP award with running back Ed Bernard. Lee was voted the Defensive MVP.
Defensive lineman Joel Rueda, a former Sobrato High standout, earned the team’s Bud Ottmar Award, and former San Benito High offensive lineman Matt Meyer took the team’s Paul Knudsen Award.
