If you have been too busy to plan or you’ve forgotten that Father’s Day is this weekend, fear not – there is good news. Sunday you can take that special Father in your life and the family to a fun-filled day, and who knows, you just might find that one-of-a-kind item as well.

Gilroy’s Annual Father’s Day Antiques and Collectibles Street Fair will be held Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free event has become an annual Gilroy tradition and has attracted serious collectors as well as people who just love to “treasure hunt.”

The event is being held at Downtown on Monterey Street, between Fourth and Sixth streets. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. an appraiser will be on location to assess that rare find. There will be about 100 legitimate antique dealers from all over California with a wide variety of collectibles. Because these dealers are not paying high overheads, bargains should be easy to come by.

Dave Peoples, who got into ”antiquing” years ago and has an extensive collection himself, advised: ”Try dealing … these vendors like to negotiate.”

There will be food, wine and beverages and for the little ones who need to burn off excess energy, jump houses. To Peoples, who has been involved with this event for many years, it is “a good time for families to enjoy and discover Downtown Gilroy and maybe find a hidden treasure.”

The fair is a great option if you’re tired of getting that special Dad the usual tie or socks that he never seems to wear.
