Have you ever thought of getting involved with the Community Media Access Project, but not sure how you could help? Aside from staff and volunteers, there’s a vital group of people that give the organization vision – our Board of Directors. CMAP has a board of fifteen people. We currently have three seats up for re-election at CMAP, and I’d like to encourage folks in the community to consider taking advantage of the opportunity.

CMAP’s Board of Directors is the backbone of the organization. It sets the goals of the station that ultimately fulfill the mission. You don’t need to have any experience in television or video to be on the board, just an interest in growing this vital resource.

If you’re interested in running for an elected seat, here’s what you need to do. First, if you aren’t already a CMAP member, you need to become one. Drop by our office at Gavilan College or download an application online. Next, get 10 signatures of other CMAP members who will support your nomination on our Board Petition form. Finally, turn in your petition and a 200-word candidate statement to CMAP by Sept. 3 at 5pm. All candidate statements will be sent to CMAP members along with ballots for the election. You will be notified a couple of weeks later if you’ve won.

Suzanne St. John-Crane is the director of CMAP. She can be reached at 846-4983. CMAP is on the Web at www.mycmap.org.
