The Gilroy High girls soccer team lost 3-0 to visiting Presentation Friday afternoon.

“We had a lot of positives in the game,” said Gilroy coach Jose Hernandez. “It was one of the strongest games we’ve had against Presentation in the last couple years.”

Despite coming out strong to start the game, the Mustangs (1-2) gave up three goals in the first half.

“We set the tone in the first 10 to 15 minutes for the first time this year,” Hernandez said. “Then we got a little sloppy with our individual defense. They started getting their passing going and started getting into a rhythm.”

Samantha Saenz, who started the game on defense, played goalie in the second half due to an injury to starter Lauren Bertero. Saenz had three saves in the game.

After losing 4-1 to Santa Teresa earlier this week, the Mustangs will continue their challenging preseason schedule against SLV and Scotts Valley next week.

“We like to load up on the ‘A’ league teams,” Hernandez said. “It reveals our character and shows us what we need to work on. It pushes us to be ready and improves our stamina.”
