DAVIS – Thirty-one Gilroy High School cheerleaders recently attended a UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) Summer Cheer Camp, spending four days eating, sleeping, and breathing cheerleading at UC Davis.
Gilroy’s cheerleaders were recognized for several camp awards, which included: four red-excellent ribbons and nine blue-superior ribbons. At final evaluations, the GHS program earned gold ribbons, the highest ribbon awarded, in every category.
The program also returned home with three trophies: a most-improved trophy for the freshmen team and trophies for the junior varsity and varsity teams for receiving blue-superior at all evaluations throughout the camp. The GHS program as a whole was awarded a third-place trophy for its extreme routine performance in the Camp Champs Competition. The extreme routine consists of multiple sections choreographed to music of dance, jumps, stunts and pyramid.
Several cheerleaders were chosen to represent Gilroy High School in the UCA All-American tryouts, while three Mustangs – Emily Powell, Seani Bay and Danielle Jimenez – made the cut and will represent GHS in the world-famous London New Year’s Day Parade.
UCA also invited all sophomore, junior, and senior GHS Cheer Team Captains to perform in the 83rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Captains will spend six days touring the Big Apple and preparing to perform while marching in the holiday parade.
