GILROY – The Gilroy High School Choirs will be presenting their 20th annual Fall Concert Tuesday and Wednesday at St. Mary Church.

The church is located at First Street and Monterey. Parking is behind the church. The concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m. with doors opening both nights at 7:10 p.m. There will be a $3 charge at the door to help with the choirs and their expenses for the year.

The annual Fall Concert will include the Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Concert Choir, Concerto Delle Donne, and the Chamber Singers. The Brownell Academy Choir will be performing Wednesday evening special guests of the high school choirs.

The Fall Concert, the first choral event of the school year, will involve more than 200 students from Gilroy High and Brownell Academy. The choirs will be singing music from the Renaissance to the 21st century. The different choirs will be singing music by Palestrina, Byrd, Handel, Mozart, as well as folk music from Tahiti, England, Brazil and Jamaica. The Fall concert concludes the first quarter of the school year and gives a preview of the another great choral season.

This year’s choirs will once again travel to San Luis Obispo, San Jose State, Glendale, Anaheim and even Germany. The Chamber Singers already began their year with a performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” at PacBell Park last month.

The Gilroy High Choirs are under the direction of Phillip Robb, now in his 20th year at Gilroy High School. The choirs under his direction have been recognized throughout the state of California for their excellence.
