Dear Editor:
I am a senior at Gilroy High School. I read Satiena Cruz’s letter submitted Feb. 26 and I couldn’t agree more. Mr. Meeker is, in my opinion, the greatest teacher at Gilroy High.
He understands the students and listens to what they have to say. He shouldn’t be fired, he should be promoted. I’d like to see who they attempt to replace Mr. Meeker with next year. No one can measure up to him; I feel sorry for students who want to take drama or speech and debate in the next few years.
But in a way, I am glad that Mr. Meeker has a chance to move on. He will be better off in a different school district, where he will be respected and appreciated for the excellent job that he does.
Maybe the parents and administrators of another school district will understand that people age 18 and under have opinions and are free to express themselves. One thing is for sure, Gilroy High students are losing an outstanding teacher, role model and friend. We’ll miss you, Mr. Meeker, but we’ll remember that you are the best.
