Facing a cold, stiff wind and a talented Salinas team, the Gilroy girls tennis team lost 6-1 Thursday.
The No. 2 doubles pair of Kim Johnson and Natalie Toews took part in the most intense match of the day, losing the first set 6-4 before rebounding to win the second set by the same score. The girls fell just short though, losing the tiebreaker 10-8.
“It was too cold, too windy, and (Salinas was) too good,” GHS coach Jami Reynolds said.
One bright note on the cloudy day was the play of No. 3 doubles partners Anneliese Zelina and Melanie Morelos. The two defeated Jaynie MacDonald and Kylie Knowles-Barnett 6-4, 6-3, to remain undefeated on the season.
