AMERICAN CANYON – Gilroy’s Girls Majors All-Stars lost their first game of the Northern California Division II Little League Softball 12-and-under championships Tuesday, dropping the front end of a double-elimination title match with Red Bluff 2-1.
After giving up two runs in the third inning, Gilroy attempted to rally in the sixth. Jacklyn Cambria hit an RBI single for Gilroy to score Brittney Souza, but Red Bluff was able to get out of the final frame for the victory.
Holly Lam continued her strong pitching for Gilroy, striking out six in the game.
A Gilroy win would have sent the club to the Western Regionals after beating Red Bluff earlier in the Division II tournament. The two teams will face each other again tonight at 5:30 p.m. in American Canyon to decide who will advance a step closer to qualifying for the Little League Softball World Series.
“It was a well-played game, we just came up short,” Gilroy manager Al Orosco said. “Tonight’s game should be very exciting and I’m confident the girls will come back, ready to play.”
