Gilroy High School welcomed a new solar photovoltaic electric system to its campus, made possible by a $25,000 donation from Pacific Gas and Electric’s Solar Schools Program.

The solar panels will provide an educational tool to students and generate 1.3 kilowatts – enough electricity to power a small home or a classroom – of clean energy to help meet the school’s power needs.

The program provides specialized solar science curriculum materials to help educate students about solar energy. GHS students will use a web-based program to track solar energy production at their school and compare it to other solar schools across California.
