Salinas – Gilroy’s girls’ tennis team didn’t let the wind or playing away from home affect their games Tuesday.

The Mustangs (2-4) rolled past Alisal 6-1 in a Tri-County Athletic League match, getting three straight-set wins each in singles and doubles.

GHS winners were Amy Huang, who defeated Brenda Luquin 6-1, 6-3; Emily Castro, who beat Aleisa Clemente 6-4, 7-5, and Cherilyn Christian, who topped Cindy Leong 7-6, 7-0. Alisal got its only point when No. 3 singles player Anabel Quintero got past Gories Kwong 7-5, 6-3.

Doubles team winners for the Mustangs were Holly Hunter and Karissa Tellez over Victoria King and Brandy Saldana 6-2, 6-4; Kim Johnson and Natalie Toews over Nicole Saldana and Genevieve Yruta 6-4, 6-1, and Sidney Eberts and Alissa Castro over Sandra Tapia and Nancy Tiznado 6-1, 6-2.

“We played well under windy conditions,” GHS coach Randy Barbaglia said.

The TCAL schedule gets more difficult Thursday when the Mustangs welcome San Benito to Gilroy.
