The Angels came out on top in this battle for first place in the American Division. Both teams came in with one loss each. The Angels lone loss of the season was to the Red Sox two weeks earlier. The Angels struck first, scoring two runs in the top of the first. After the second inning, the Red Sox had a 3-2 lead. Richie Rios came in to pitch for the A’s in the third inning and struck out the first eight batters he faced. The Angels had a big inning in the fifth, taking a 10-3 lead. Josh Wheat went 3-for-3, Rios was 2-for-3, Pablo Torres was 2-for-3, and Hector Perez was 2-for-3 for the Angels. The Red Sox were lead by Joe Vanni and Raul Tova, who hit a triple in the first inning.
Nationals 12, Braves 2
The Nationals had their best hitting game of the season with 10 hits led by Brendan Reimer, who had a single and a three-RBI triple. Darren Santos had two RBIs on a single, and Jayson Hickman had two singles in the game. Also contributing to the game with singles were Ben Reeder, Jeremiah Mireles, Jordan Celestino, Kevin Cox-Subia and Sean Johnson. Ryan Citti pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five. Brendan Reimer pitched 1 1/3 innings, striking out all four batters he faced.
On defense, Ryan Citti (second base) and Jordan Celestino (shortstop) made some nice plays in the field. Sean Johnson made had the play of the game to catch on a deep fly ball to end the an inning and prevent a run from scoring.
Nationals 13, Cubs 8
The Nationals had six hits in this game. Brendan Reimer was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, Darren Santos had a double and an RBI, Ryan Citti had an RBI single, and Jerimiah Mireles had a single. Darren Santos pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits striking out six.
Defensively, Ryan Citti (second base) and Jayson Hickman (first base) combined to make some nice plays. Hickman also made a nice catch on a fly ball.
