So much for an all-Gilroy matchup in the Minors Tournament of Champions. Gilroy National lost 7-3 to the Scotts Valley Reds Thursday night and won’t be facing the idle Gilroy American team in the championship game tonight. Gilroy National finishes in third place, while Scotts Valley moves on to the championship.

Alex Herrera started off on the mound for Gilroy, and Brandon Holler came in the middle of the second to close it off. He had nine strikeouts.

Holler and Bailey Schipper both had a double and single each. Brian Ransom had a two-RBI single in the first inning. The Reds jumped out quickly with five runs in the first inning. They added two more in the fourth.

Minors All-Star play begins on July 5 when the Gilroy National team faces a rematch against Scotts Valley at 5pm in Santa Cruz. The Gilroy American team plays Aptos July 6 at 7:30pm.
