Daniel Paul Hanten, born on December 28, 1949, in Camp Belvoir, VA, passed away at his home in Gilroy, CA on September 26, 2012, of natural causes. Daniel is survived by his daughters, Erin Hanten of Gilroy and Kimberly Wilson of Hollister, his sister Rosemary Hanten of Reno, NV, and his grandchildren, Destiny Martinez and Noah Jacksich.
Born January 23, 1943 in Rio Hondo, Texas she grew up in Arizona and lived most of her adult life in Morgan Hill, CA. Connie was a house wife and later in life became a home care provider loving her job, but most importantly her family. Connie cherished her children and her sibling always the life of the party making people laugh when they were at their lowest and giving so much to those in need. The warmth will be missed, but not forgotten.
Sybil Bernice Sammons passed away November 5th at her residence in Los Banos after a long period of failing health. Sybil was a native of Whitewater, New Mexico, lived in Hollister from 1976 until 1996 at which time she moved to Los Banos to be with her family. Sybil was a homemaker most of her life and cherished the time she could spend with her children and grandchildren. She was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Hollister as well as in Los Banos. "Reading her bible and going to church was her passion" ,said her daughter Javana. Sybil was the spouse of the late Gene Sammons who passed away August 1994. Sybil is survived by her children and their spouses Eunice Bowen of Kelseyvillle, CA; Travis and Shauna Sammons, Johnny and Sylvia Sammons of WA; Marvin and Vicki Sammons of PA; and Javana Sammons of Los Banos; and her daughter in law Laurel Sammons of AZ, spouse of the late Ferran Sammons. She leaves a brother Robert Brazil of NM, a sister Dorothy Shafer of Lakeport, CA, sister in law Margie Slagle of AZ.; her grandchildren Chevon, Macon, Leif, John Jr. , Richard, Cindy, Jolene Bernie, Rusty, Ronnie, Jody, and Jenny Sammons; Tara Thompson, Crystal Deboldt; Steven and David Wade.; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home 870 San Benito St., Hollister on Thursday November 9th from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary chapel Friday morning at 10:15 A.M. to attend the funeral service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church 2121 Sunnyslope Rd., Hollister at 11:00 A.M. Private cremation will follow with inurnment at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Donations are preferred to Hines Hospice Of Merced c/o the mortuary chapel.
Armando Ruiz Quiroz passed away peacefully on January 9, 2012, surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 5:00-8:00 P.M., with a service at 7:00 P.M., both taking place at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey St., Morgan Hill, CA. A Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Catherine Catholic Church, 17400 Peak Ave., Morgan Hill. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Memorial Park in Morgan Hill.

Jack L. Waters passed away in Hollister. He was born in Paicines and lived in San Benito County nearly all of his life. He attended Live Oak School where his mother taught, Hollister Grammar School, San Benito High School, San Jose Normal School (San Jose State University) and UC Davis. During WWII he was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and flew B-26 airplanes. After the war he was in the National Guard. He was employed many years with P.G.&E as an engineer and also cattle ranched and farmed in south county. He was a longtime member of Mound Lodge #166 IOOF and Fidelity Rebekah Lodge and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. In the IOOF, he served as Noble Grand, Secretary and was a District Deputy. He also was a member of Hollister Elks Lodge, a member and leader in 4-H and as a youth was involved in The Boy Scouts of America and Y-Indian Guides. He enjoyed reading, bowling, played in a 7 piece band and played horns, the organ and piano and enjoyed flying airplanes.
