Adriana Hernandez passed away peacefully at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco at the age of 34 years. She was born and raised in Hollister. She worked for many years at Community Solutions. Rosalia Arlia born March 15, 1911 resided in Gilroy for over 30 years and passed away at 98 years old on June 15, 2009. Beloved mother of Frank Arlia, loving grandmother to Mike, John, and Susie Arlia. great-grandmother to Matt Avilla, Mikayla, Madrea, Madelynn, Meghan, and Francesca Arlia. Rosalia is also survived by 3 younger siblings Rosa, Salvatore, and Bill.
Doris was born Doris Anne Wiltsie in Aquetuck, NY on December 16, 1926. She passed away peacefully on June 8, 2009. Her high school yearbook stated that she was an all around athlete, having participated in many sports in school including cheerleading. She enjoyed golf and bowling for many years, scoring a hole-in-one twice and bowling a 600 triple. She was "Girl Scout Leader of the Year" in 1967. She was a member of the Board of Directors for the Town of Ulster Library in 1974. She received a "Silver Pen Award" from San Jose Mercury News in 1981. She received a 1000 hour award for volunteering at the Santa Teresa Hospital in San Jose, CA in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, H. Peter Hoffman; and her daughter, Holly Eve Zedlar. In 1969, she lost a 17 year-old son, Michael, in a tragic accident. A memorial service will take place at Johnson Funeral Home, 17720 Monterey Street in Morgan Hill on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. If you wish, you may make a donation in memory of Doris A. Isabell Prieto passed away Friday morning at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital at the age of 98. She was born in Paicines and has lived in San Benito County all her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the S.D.E.S of Hollister.
Brawley, Lowell Donald, also known as LD, passed away on June 9, 2009 after a long illness. He was born in Ardmore, OK on January 26, 1935. In the spring of 1936, the family moved to California and he attended Morgan Hill elementary schools and graduated from Live Oak in 1955 where he was active in the FFA. After graduation, he went to work as a crane operator for BG Manufacturing in Gilroy. When BG closed Lowell went into farming on his own throughout the Santa Clara Valley and in Hollister. He raised prunes, walnuts, cucumbers, and grapes. He became known as the "Cucumber King" when he grew cucumbers in bottles. He also began his own commercial tractor business. In 1963, he began working for Morgan Hill Unified School District as a custodian and retired after 33 years as a transportation assistant. Lowell served as a volunteer fireman and was a member of several organizations including Morgan Hill Junior Chamber of Commerce, Moose Lodge, Farm Bureau, Fish & Game Club, and the Morgan Hill Historical Society. His fondest memories are his time with the fire department and the monthly meetings of the Historical Society. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Dora and Grady Brawley and brother Byron. He is survived by his brother Gary (Linda) Brawley of Peoria, AZ, sister-in-law Angie Brawley of San Jose, nephew Gary Matthew (Tiffany) of Peoria, AZ, niece Jodi of Boise, ID, great-nephews Joshua and Nathan Brawley and great-niece Macy Brawley of Peoria, AZ and many close friends in the Morgan Hill area. Services are under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home at 10:00 A.M., visitation begins at 8:30 A.M., on June 17, the Reverend Tim Howe officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Morgan Hill Historical Society or the First Baptist Church of Gilroy.
Emma Zamarron Martinez, daughter of the late Pablo and Manuel G. Zamarron. She was born on June 30, 1923 in San Antonio, TX. Emma worked and lived with her husband, Dionicio Martinez in Soledad, CA until his passing in 1979. Emma then relocated to Gilroy, CA to be with her family. Emma was an active member at the Gilroy Senior Center, Phil Am Club and loved Bingo. Emma was 85 years young when she passed away with family at her side on June 9, 2009. Emma, the oldest family member, will be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters, Jesus (late Jennie) of Phoenix, AZ, Joe (Elenore) of Manteca, CA, Nora Landeros (Jose) of Gilroy, Pablo (Frances) of Gilroy, Theodore (Antonio) of Gilroy, Anthony (Armendina) of Hollister, Guadalupe of Gilroy, Rudolfo (Rose) of Gilroy, and the late Martin (late Tilla) of Glendale, AZ, late Ricardo (Carmen) of Gilroy, late Julio (late Guadalupe) of Colorado Springs, CO. She also had many nieces and nephews and their extended families. Viewing will begin at 2:00 P.M. and Vigil will be at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday at Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 4th St., Gilroy. Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 11 First St., Gilroy followed by burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
