Steven A. Gordon

Steven A. Gordon, 55, passed away unexpectedly on March 30, 2009 in Santa Barbara, CA. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin on January 10, 1954 and graduated from Lafollette High School in 1972. At the age of 18, Steve began his professional career at Wisconsin Public Radio as a recording engineer. He moved to California in 1980 and became in independent audio producer, engineer and voice talent working with a number of media companies on the west and east coasts. His work is reflected in many commercials, webcasts, television and film productions. Steve also developed and marketed his own audio book label which received four Audie awards - the audio book industry's highest award - as well as numerous other audio book citations.

Matthew Ray Plesek

Matthew "Matt" R. Plesek passed away in Watsonville, CA on April 8th as the result of a traffic accident at the age of 33 years. He is survived by his spouse, Stephanie, his sons, Jordan and Austin, his parents, Frank and Nancy Plesek, in laws, William and Linda Pedrazzi and many other family members. Funeral services and a celebration of Matt's life will be held on Wednesday, April 15th, beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church, 2066 San Benito St., Hollister. A reception will follow.

Tazue (Tazzie) Okita

Tazue (Tazzie) Okita of Carmel, CA passed away on April 7, 2009 at the age of 83. Tazzie was born in Gilroy, CA and lived most of her life in Hollister. She resided in Carmel since 1999. Tazzie was preceded in death by her husband Tom, and is survived by daughter Irene Blodget, son-in-law Donald Blodget, and many sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 10th at 10:00 A.M. at the Habing Family Funeral Home, 129 Fourth Street, Gilroy, CA. Internment services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Carmel Foundation or a charity of your choice.

John Heathcote Connett Jr.

John Connett came to California with his parents, 3 brothers and a sister in 1920 and lived on Mission Street, building their home with their own hands while living in a tent on the property.

Herminia (Minnie) Ramos

Herminia "Minnie" Ramos passed away in Hollister at the age of 93. She was born in Texas and lived in Hollister since 1964, moving here from Huron, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jose, who died in 1997. She worked for many years in the local cannery, was a member of Sacred Heart Church and The Guadalupana Society.

Hazel Scott Cronin Connery

HAZEL SCOTT CRONIN CONNERY, born 7/6/15 in Whitney, SD and a resident of Gilroy, died peacefully surrounded by family on 4/3/09. She was a highly adored daughter, sister, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Predeceased by husbands Patrick Cronin and Charles Connery and daughter Maeve Cronin-Williams. Hazel will be sadly missed by her children Deirdre (late Hugh) Saracino, Eileen (late Daniel) Cuevas, Kevin (Gail) Cronin, Kathleen Cronin (Sean Maffett), Joan Cronin (Sean Dempsey), and Coemella Cronin (John Wilson), and her loving sister Ruth. Loving Grandma to 19, Great-Grandma to 6 and Auntie to many nieces and nephews. Despite life's many challenges, Hazel remained unflappable, gracious, positive, and patient. Her garden and home were reflections of her character. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Gilroy, Thursday, 4/9/09, 10:00 A.M. Ronnelle "Roni" Cecelia Vanderbilt, born on September 10, 1942, on North Island Naval Air Station, San Diego, CA to Ronald and Phyllis Barry, passed away April 2, 2009, losing her battle with multiple cancers at the age of 66 years.
