Jim Harnden passed away January 16th at Saint Louise Regional Hospital in Gilroy, CA after a 6 month battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Lynda; sister Leola Rogers of Phoenix, AZ, sister Dorothy Griffin of Jenks, OK; and sister Hazel Buehler of Versailles, MO. He was preceded in death by his mother Effie Mae Hodges and father James Howard Harnden of Rogersville, MO. Jim was born in Cabool, MO.
Sharon L. Vera passed peacefully in her sleep on January 18, 2008 in Folsom, CA. Sharon lived for many years with cancer and in July 2008, moved to Folsom to be near her son Troy Vera and daughter-in-law Krista. Sharon was born on March 17, 1945 in Enterprise, OR. She moved to Morgan Hill in 1964 and then to Gilroy in 1969. Known for her friendly smile and giving spirit, she was a source of joy and companionship to everyone from newborns to 100+ year olds. Her career in senior care began in 1978 - she worked at various convalescent homes and eventually went into business for herself as a home health care provider. Friends and family can all agree that she would do anything for anyone before herself and lived a life of faith in God and love for everyone. She will be laid to rest in La Grande, OR with her grandmother. As we celebrate her life, we also carry on her love, generosity and joyful spirit. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 26 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1735 Hecker Pass Highway, Gilroy.
Geraldine Oates peacefully passed away January 13th in Sunnyvale, CA. She was the loving mother of Carol Horrillo and Gail Spence, loving Nana to six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Manuel J. Escover passed away after a brief illness on January 16, 2008. Mr. Escover is the son of the late Manuel F. and Lenora Escover, and brother of the deceased Marie Buckner and Gloria Escover. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Escover, and sons Matthew Escover and Steven Escover. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins in the Santa Clara Valley, San Benito County, and the Central Valley.
Patty passed away at her home on January 15, 2008 surrounded by Roger, her five children and three dogs. She was the beloved wife of 51years to Dr. Daniel Roger Burschinger, loving mother of Megan (Hunt) Williams, Peter Burschinger, Patrick Burschinger, Joseph (Michaela) Burschinger, and Daniel Burschinger. She was the proud grandmother of Kate and Hunt Williams, William, Maire and Timothy Burschinger, and Daniel Henry and Peter Thomas Burschinger. She was the cherished sister of Terry Johnston, and Thomas Burke.
Long time Hollister resident Eileen Bourdet passed away suddenly at her residence on January 15th at the age of 86 years. Eileen was a native of Montana and has resided in San Benito County since 1985. She was a graduate of Montana State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education. While working for the University's English Department Head at Montana State, she met her husband to be, Gene Bourdet. As a teacher at Boseman High School in August 1945 she and Gene were married. Besides being a homemaker, Eileen devoted her life to helping and serving others through her active participation in Hospice; Fishes & Loaves; the Food Bank; Hazel Hawkins Hospital Auxilary, as a very active worker at the Christmas Bazzar and Luncheon; and as a Eucharistic Minister on behalf of the Catholic Community of San Benito County, visiting the patients at Mabie Southside Nursing Center. She was happy belonging to a Small Faith Group at St. Benedict/Sacred Heart Church. In addition to her husband Gene, Eileen is survived by her children Linda Hurless of Casper, WY; James Bourdet (Susan) of Jefferson, OR; Barbara Nolan (Steve) of Granite Bay, CA; Michael Bourdet of Encinitas, CA; and Janet Bourdet of Ontario, Canada; 6 grandchildren; brothers, John Olson (Katy)and James Olson (Joan) of MT; a sister Cecilia Winters (Harry) of San Rafael; sister-in-law Janice Rose (late George Sr.) of Hollister and brother-in-law Leonard Bourdet (Becky) of Fresno; and several nieces and nephews.
Crispin G. Espinosa passed away in Salinas. He was born in Michoacan, Mexico and lived in San Juan Bautista, coming to San Benito County in 1943 from Mexico. He married his wife, Carmen, in 1947 in Carson City, NV. He is survived by his wife, Carmen Espinosa of Hollister, his children and their spouses, Leonardo and Martha Espinosa of Hollister, Raul Espinosa of Vancouver, WA, Crispin Jr. and Brenda Espinosa of Lathrop, Vicky Espinosa of San Juan Bautista, Consuelo Espinosa of Gilroy, Ofelia and Frank Orabuena of Hollister, Ruben and Regina Espinosa of Hollister, Jose Luis Espinosa of San Juan Bautista and Sylvia Espinosa of Gilroy. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Espinosa.
Judith Ann Sweetman Peterson, loving wife, mother and Nana, went to dance in the Heavens unexpectedly, but peacefully, at her home in Seaside on the afternoon of January 9, 2008. She was born August 14, 1941 at the old Community Hospital in Carmel to Russell and Elsie Sweetman. Judy lived in Pacific Grove until the death of her mother in 1951. After the passing of her mother, Judy and her father moved to Hollister a few years later, where she graduated from Hollister High School, Class of '59.
