Olive May Thomas

Olive May Thomas, a longtime resident of Hollister, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2007 in Lancaster, California. She was 98. Olive was born December 8, 1908, to William and May Campbell, early day pioneers of San Felipe and Hollister areas. She was born while the family lived in San Felipe on Lovers Lane and attended school in San Felipe and later in Hollister. While living in San Felipe, Olive and her family attended the quaint old "San Felipe Church" on Frye Lane. When Olive was eight years old, the family moved to Hollister, where they had one of the largest apricot and prune orchards in San Benito County. She had many wonderful years in Hollister before moving to Santa Cruz, where she resided until her retirement in 1979 from nursing. After her retirement ,she moved back to Hollister to be closer to family and friends.

Marion Helena Moore

Marion Helena Moore passed away Sunday morning in Paicines at the age of 91. She was a native of San Benito County.

Ronald D. Low

Ronald Low passed away on November 3, 2007 in San Jose, California at the age of 66. He was born and raised in Hollister, California. Ronald received his Bachelors' degree from Fresno State University and his Masters from Sahn Jose State University. He retired from the San Jose School District. Ronald also served in the Vietnam War. Ronald is survived by his sister Carol Hing (Ron), Daly City, CA, brother Gary, Atlanta, GA, brother John (Jackie), Fremont, CA; loving uncle to Kelli Sui, Chris Hing, Kendal Low and Vanessa and David Low, great-uncle to Gabriella Sui and Taylynn Low.

Toyoko S. (Tomi) Terasaki

Tomi Terasaki, as she was lovingly known, went home to be with the Lord on November 6th at the age of 72 years. Tomi was a native of Niigata, Japan ,who came to the United States in December of 1954 and to San Benito County in 1960. Tomi retired from Teledyne McCormick Selph as the Lead Person of the Manufacturing Department after 33 years of service to Teledyne. Her family stated that " besides being a great mother and a great grandmother, Tomi always cared about others, rather than placing herself first". She was the beloved spouse of the late Ryo Terasaki who died August 6, 1994. She was the loving mother of Tatsuya Mike Terasaki (Spouse Teresa Kay) of Glendale; and Theresa Natt (Husband David) of Oregon, devoted grandmother to Briana and Micah Teresaki and Akemi and Ryoko Natt. She is survived by other family members living in Southern California and Japan. Friends are invited to attend the funeral services on Saturday morning at 10 A.M. at the Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. Private cremation will follow with interment at Rose Hills Cemetery, Whittier, CA.

John Stanley Fear

John Stanley Fear passed away at his home in Aromas on Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 at the age of 68. A native of Shalersville, Ohio, he lived in this area for 28 years.

William Guy Harkness

William Guy Harkness, 56, of San Carlos, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2007, in Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto. Bill was born in Wheeler Hospital in Gilroy and lived in Paradise Valley and Morgan Hill. His parents were Walt and Shar Harkness, his grandparents were Helen Kelley Harkness and Guy Harkness; pioneer families in Paradise Valley. He attended Machado School and was the third generation of his family to attend the two room school. His family moved to Davis, CA in 1959, where Bill attended Davis schools and U. C. Davis. The Harkness family has retained family property in Paradise Valley, and Bill was able to spend time there with family and friends. Bill loved the outdoors, hiking trips, playing baseball and golf. Bill had suffered from cancer for 19 years, but through the intervening years, he retained his positive outlook on life, natural curiosity and sense of humor. His optimism, compassion and kindness to friends, family and anyone fortunate to meet him will continue to be an inspiration for us all.

Joseph “Peter” Sutti

Joseph "Peter" Sutti, long time resident of San Juan Bautista, died November 5 in Santa Rosa at the age of 81. Pete was a member of The Veterans #359. He served on the SJB City Council, Police Commissioner of SJB, and worked for Ideal Cement Co. for 32 years. He served on the SJB Fiesta Rodeo Comittee for many years. He is survived by his wife Teresa of Santa Rosa, his son Steve Sutti of SJB, daughter Dawn Sutti of San Francisco, three grandchildren, Audra Sutti Edge, Brian Sutti, and Nathan Sutti, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Brent Sutti. Private interment will be held in Santa Rosa, CA. Any donations should go to the American Cancer Society.

Jesus M. Pena

Jesus M. Pena passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at the age of 65. He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico and came to California at the age of 16. He retired from Gentry's, where he worked for over 21 years. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maria T. Pena of El Paso, TX; parents, Desiderio and Carolina Pena; children; Maria (Felix) of Hanford, Jesse, Hector (Hilda), Diana (Johnny), and James all of Gilroy; 18 grandchildren; Yvonne, April, Felix Jr., Freddy, Desiree, Denise, Dominique, Yvonne, Joseph, Alyssa, Jacob, Katrina, Phillip, Danielle, Ruben Jr., Anthony, Savanna, and Johnessa; 6 great grandchildren, Vanessa, Serenity, Steven Jr., Anthony Noah, sisters; Juana and Lupe; and brother Manuel. He is also survived by brothers-in-law; Hector, Art, Frank, Tony and sisters-in- law; Martha and Teresa; also many nieces, nephews. All those whose lives he has touched are invited to attend services in his honor. Vigil services will be held 7:00 P.M. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Funeral Mass 10:00 A.M. Friday, Nov. 9, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Gilroy.

Martha S. Sanchez

Martha S. Sanchez of Gilroy, CA passed from this earth on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007, following a lengthy illness. Vincent E. Sanchez, her husband of 59 years, lovingly remained by her side. Martha is survived by her husband, Vincent, sisters-in-law Wilma Kunkel of Petaluma, Lupe Sanchez and Carmen Sanchez of Gilroy, in addition to her four children: Diana McDonald (son-in-law, Bob) of San Jose, Carole Knapel of Eugene, Oregon, Gary and Steven of Gilroy. Martha was a loving grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of five and aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
