Rafael A. Dominguez passed away in Hollister. He was born in Saucillo, Chihuahua, Mexico and came to Hollister in 1963. He married his wife, Bertha, in 1950 in Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico. He was employed with PG&E for many years, was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the IBEW Union.
Ermelinda Garza was born in Gilroy, California on April 23, 1954. She passed away on August 10, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband, Jorge Garza; children (and spouses) George Luis Garza (Rochelle), Michael Garza (Andrea), Nadine and Sylvia Garza, Angelica (Carlos) Gonzalez; grandchildren Priscilla, Elijah and Josiah Garza; Felipe Palacios; Joseph and Isaiah Caudillo, Kristen Aguirre; Carlos, Jr., Michael and Maya Gonzalez; Nathaniel and Leah Garza and Peter Mastroieni. Ermelinda is also survived by brothers, Martin A. Gonzales; Frank (Rosie) Gonzales; Manuel E. Alfaro; and Johnny (Antonia) Gonzales; sisters, Diana (Santos) Garcia; Maria (Tony) Gonzalez, Gloria (Raymond) Dominguez; Hilda Binongial; Rosanna (Anthony) Rosso; Daniella (Dr. Andrew) Lozano; uncles, Frank and Arthur Martinez; aunts, Socorro Landeros; Eloina (Willie) Navarrette; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She is preceded in death by her loving mother, Alicia Theresa Gonzales; grandmother, Concepcion Martinez; aunt, Herminia Martinez; uncles, Raymond, Alfonso, Steve and Gilbert Martinez.
Luisa passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital August 10th at the age of 84 years. A native of Mexico, Luisa spent the last 45 years as a resident of San Benito County. She and her late husband Jesus Vasquez had been married for 68 years when he passed away September 29, 2006. "A homemaker all her life, Luisa was devoted to her family, especially cooking for them at the family get-togethers which she enjoyed so much.
Lorayne Stricker passed away in Lapeer, MI, at the age of 84. She was born to John and Gladys (Cobbs) Biesiot in Port Huron, Michigan. Lorayne was a 30 year resident of Gilroy, a member of Gilroy Presbyterian Church and had worked for the Santa Clara County office in San Martin for many years. She loved knitting, cats, babies and chocolate. She is survived by her children; Gayle (Clayton) Steffensen of Gilroy, Edward (Nancy) Sanders II of Covington, GA and Jim (Sharon) Jackson of Lapeer, MI. Lorayne was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Three grandchildren live locally; Jeff Jeske, Robert Jeske and Lisa Cantu. Lorayne was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Beryl.
Jacquelyn Carol Sorensen passed away Wednesday evening at the age of 60 at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Born in Independence, Kansas, she has lived in Hollister for the past 11 years. Jacquelyn is survived by her husband, Mark Sorensen of Hollister, children; Dede Bitbol of New Jersey, Bo Pierce of Illinois, Toby Pierce and Shawna Dicksen, both of Hollister and Mike Sorensen of Illinois. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 2 brothers, David and Robert Reid of Illinois.
Ronnie was born in Gilroy, CA on April 1, 1983 and passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 in Visalia. Ronnie was a beloved son, father, brother, nephew, uncle, grandson and a friend to many, he will be greatly missed.
Barbara Byler Saum passed away on July 18 in Hollister, following several months of illness. A model of compassion, strength, and elegance, Barbara never wavered from the conviction that, for her, working to raise her family was the most important of her life's tasks and by far her favorite.
Rafael Rangel passed away at his home in Hollister Wednesday evening at the age of 43. He was born in Mexico, and came to Hollister at the age of 3. He was a member of Sacred Heart/St. Benedict Church and had been a realtor for the past 3 years with Coldwell Banker. Rafael is survived by his parents, Salvador & Elisa Rangel of Hollister and is a brother of Salvador and Juan Rangel both of Mexico, Esperanza Prieto of Hollister, Jesus Rangel of Mexico, Guadalupe Manzo and Elisa Gomez, both of Hollister, Carmen Diaz of San Diego, Fernando Rangel of Mexico and Josi Herrera of Hollister. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A rosary service will be held Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. A memorial Mass will be offered Tuesday morning at 10 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at the St. Benedict Church Columbarium.
