Former Hollister resident Bonnie Jean Weigand passed away at her San Jose home at the age of 74. Arrangements are pending at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home.
In the comfort of his home, in his favorite easy chair, death came peacefully on August 1, 2007. His battle with lung cancer ended. Through the loving care of hospice, his family and his wonderful family of friends at Pine Tree Villas in Morgan Hill, his wish to remain independent and content at home was fulfilled. Always helpful to others, the love returned was unending.
Fred was born in San Juan Bautista and lived in Hollister until 1953. He worked as a carpenter for his entire working career. While in Hollister, he was given the job of building the Bolado Park Golf Club House with the assistance of many of the golfers. He moved to San Jose in 1953, where he married his loving wife Geraldine. He is survived by his wife and children; Catherine Thompson, Fred Tuso III, Sue Pershon, and Michael Tuso, his two sisters; Lena Lewis and Chelsea Vaccarezza, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Evelyn Louise Sams Howden ("EvaLou"), 92, passed away peacefully in her Gilroy home on July 31 in the company of her children, Bill Howden and Teri Freedman. An avid recreational vehicle enthusiast, EvaLou suffered a stroke June 20 while visiting family and friends in San Diego.
Miguel Peralta passed away at his Hollister home at the age of 50. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church. Cremation will follow the Mass with private family inurnment.
Ruben, a long time Hollister resident, passed away at his San Bernardino, CA home at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, Rosalia Reyes, his sons; Ruben "Tito" Reyes, Jr., Frank Reyes, and Alfred Reyes, his daughters; Roberta Reyes, Rachel Robinson, Irene Wilson, Stella and Donnie Guttirez, Mary and Mike Martinez, Gloria and Javier Nunez, step-children; Christina Cowan and Beto Gonzales. He is also survived by many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph "Benjie" Reyes and granddaughter Jennifer Reyes Garcia.
Imogene (Jane) Stockam passed away July 31, 2007 at Saint Louise Hospital at the age of 82. She was born in Amarillo, Texas in 1925. She retired from Becton-Dickenson after 30 years with them. In retirement she enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, doll collecting, her cats, house plants and keeping in touch with her friends and family. She is survived by her adopted sister and brother-in-law, Patt and Leo Harris of Santa Clara, her children; Louise Stockam and Stan Stockam of Morgan Hill. Her youngest son, Mike Stockam, passed away in 2004. She also leaves 3 grandsons, 4 great-grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all.
Atanasio M. (Nacho) Valles passed away at his San Juan Bautista home. He was born in Topia, Durango, Mexico and came to San Benito County from Westmoreland in 1944. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, worked for Ideal Cement Co., Ferry Morse and worked in auto mechanics. He enjoyed tinkering in his workshop in his free time. He also served in the Army during WWII. He and his wife, Jennie, were married in 1940 in Westmoreland, CA.
Sue Torchia, 97 passed away in Tahlequah, OK. She is survived by her daughters Rose Cambiano, Tahlequah, OK, Lena Ingolia, Pomona and Thomas Torchia of Boston, MA, plus numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister Mary Fortino of Hollister. Services have been held.
