Carmen Garcia of Gilroy has received a $1,500 scholarship from the Silicon Valley San Jose Chapter of the California Society of CPAs. Garcia is a student at Gavilan College. The chapter recently awarded a total of $41,000 in scholarships to 18 San Jose area students. Since 1999, the chapter has awarded more than $400,000 to students pursuing degrees in accounting and related subjects.
The students and the schools they are attending are as follows: $3,500 scholarships: Joseph Chua of San Jose, San Jose State University; Ruiping Gao of San Jose, Santa Clara University; Olga Dubinskaya of South San Francisco, University of California, Santa Cruz; and Mihir Patel of Monterey, California State University, Monterey Bay. $2,500 scholarships: Joyce Yu of San Jose, San Jose State University; Kang Ming Si of Cupertino, Santa Clara University; Danielle Chandler of Los Angeles, University of California, Santa Cruz; Anastasiya Zavada of San Jose, San Jose City College; and Jennifer Warner and Benjamin Oppong-Bio, both of Marina, California State University, Monterey Bay. All of the following students received $1,500 scholarships: Elizabeth Perez of San Jose, De Anza College; Tram Dao of San Jose, Evergreen Valley College; Carleen Abarro of San Bruno, Foothill College; and Carmen Garcia of Gilroy, Gavilan College. Eric Berquist of Stanford, Mission College; Ana Gines of Marina, Monterey Peninsula College; Metasebia Getahun of San Jose, San Jose City College; and Mahasti Jamshidian of San Jose, West Valley College. The scholarships annually recognize outstanding students who are pursuing studies that eventually could lead to careers as CPAs
