SAN JOSE – Two talented teams collided Tuesday night as the 11-year-old Gilroy American and Gilroy National all-star teams took on one another for the right to play in the District 59 championship game.
Along with steadied pitching performances of Anthonee Bartholic and Nathan Madrano, the Gilroy American team touched up the National squad for nine runs in the fourth inning en route to a 9-3 victory.
The National is still alive in the tournament, dropping to the losers bracket, and will play again Saturday at Anderson School in San Jose, leaving the door open for an all Gilroy championship game Monday.
Prior to the semifinals triumph, the Gilroy American contingent disposed of Evergreen, Oakridge and Berryessa.
