FREMONT – The Silicon Valley Glory 13-and-under girls softball team won the USSSA Fall State Tournament in Fremont over Thanksgiving weekend.
The Glory went right to work in Game 1, disposing of the Valley Stompers 9-2. Holly Lam tossed a complete game and had three hits, including a home run in the victory. Mack Mitchell, Brittney Souza and Dejah Raoof also had three base-knocks for the Glory.
The Livermore Smoke gave the Glory all they could handle in Game 2, but Lam’s and Lauren Castro’s pitching efforts helped secure a tight 4-3 win.
The Glory came out on top 14-12 in an extra-inning semifinal slugfest against the Los Gatos/Saratoga Magic.
Mitchell, Souza and Lam again ripped three hits apiece and Nicole Green clobbered a home run to help send the Glory to the finals.
The Glory and Magic met in the championship game, and once again it took extra innings to decide a winner.
After the Magic jumped out to a 6-0 advantage, the Glory exploded for a 10-run fourth inning. But the Magic cooked up a final-inning rally to tie the game. Green ripped an RBI-single to plate one run in the extra frame and Ali Hathaway singled to bring home a much-needed insurance run as the Magic were able to put one across in their half of the inning before running out of steam.
