SAN MARTIN — Big names are starting to trickle in to the list of commitments for the Frys.com Open.
Ricky Barnes and Rocco Mediate are among the latest to throw their names into the hat for the Oct. 11-17 event at CordeValle, a Frys.com Open spokesman announced today.
Barnes, the 2009 U.S. Open runner-up and 2002 U.S. Amateur champion, is in the midst of his best year on the tour, having made 16 of 19 cuts and six top-10 finishes. He is listed 22nd on the tour’s money list and 64th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Mediate is a five-time PGA Tour event winner best known for nearly defeating Tiger Woods in their famous playoff to decide the U.S. Open title in 2008.
The list of recently commitments for the tournament in San Martin — the PGA Tour’s first in Silicon Valley — comprises several tour-event winners, including three-timers Carl Pettersson and Cameron Beckman, who won the 2008 Frys.com Open in Scottsdale, Ariz. Ryuiji Imada, Brendon de Jonge, Charley Hoffman and Bo Van Pelt also have wins under their belts. Imada is ranked 16th on the PGA Tour money list.
Tour members have until Oct. 8 to commit to the Frys.com Open. The event will feature a 132-player field with a $5 million purse and a $900,000 payout to the winner.
