Why didn’t someone tell me?
I mean, really good friends share all the gossip of small towns.

I mean, really good friends share all the gossip of small towns. I’m the gossip columnist; I’m supposed to know these things. Why didn’t anyone tell me you can go to a coffee shop in Gilroy and listen to live music, play games like checkers, chess and Balderdash and drink coffee until 9pm (then try to go home and sleep)?

Oh, I forgot. My friend Camie Brown did mention this awhile back after symphony rehearsal. The coffee shop? It’s Sue’s Coffee Roasting on the corner of 5th and Monterey Streets. Not only can you hear live music, play games and drink coffee, you can also participate in an Open Mike night – a true test of talent when it doesn’t involve a few rounds of liquid courage.

Find out what the buzz is by checking out Sue’s Web site at www.suescoffeeroasting.com. According to Camie, Gilroy is full of coffee shop concerts on the weekends. Let’s start a trend … coffeehopping. Juan Valdez thanks you.

Late nights are what it’s all about for members of the South Valley Symphony rehearsing for their upcoming concert at Gavilan College Oct. 15 at 7pm. The program is as diverse as the members including Ravel’s Bolero, Grieg Piano Concerto, Watermusic by Handel, and the theme to “Raider’s of the Lost Ark” by John Williams. Turn off the television and go see or do something live or lively.

These boots were made for walking … Have you been into the Boot Barn in San Martin lately? I’ll admit I used to go in there when it was Felice’s Western store just to get my leather-smell fix (ask an equestrian. It’s a weird horsey thing). Boots are in for the fall in a very big way. The boot barn carries a funky brand called Fat babies. They also carry Kippy belts covered in Swarovski crystals along with the only stock of Brighton in the South County and new Brighton sunglasses. What a find. Don’t say I never let you in on the hottest tips.

Ciao for now.
