Many students that I see suffer from bad fundamentals. These bad fundamentals seem to start from the ground up. It like what any good contractor will tell you, “you can’t build a good house without a good foundation.”
The footwork is the foundation to a good swing. Most players tend to spin and pivot too much during their swing. This leads to the upper body doing the same and your swing coming over the top intead of down the target line.
One main key to work on is the position of the right foot during the swing. On the backswing, make sure the right foot is solid on the ground. Don’t let it roll to the outside. If weight goes to the outside of your foot, then it is difficult to get it back to the center of the foot and eventually to the instep.
On the downswing, push off the inside of your right foot to in itate the downswing. You should making contact with the instep of the right foot not spinning on your toe. If you see spin marks in the turf where your right foot was then you are spinning on the right foot and not driving off the instep.
Remember, when all else fails, take a lesson, you’ll be surprised how much we can help.
