Dear Editor,

I was delighted to read Doreen Filice’s article on growing native plants in the home garden. Not only are these plants easily available at local nurseries, they have great environmental value. They consume less water and energy, and save money. Water is a precious resource, and we should do what we can to conserve it. Most of all, there are many native plants of exceptional beauty that deserve space in California gardens.

Please continue to cover this important topic. There are many local resources: the California Native Plant Society (www.cnps-scv.org), Gardening With Natives (www.gardeningwithnatives.com), and the Going Native Garden Tour (www.goingnativegardentour.com).
