Dear Red Phone,
“Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m., I was out at the Las Animas tennis courts and they’ve got a massive fire danger, weed issue between the parking lot and the tennis courts. It’s about 3-foot-high dry grasses and also between the apartments and the tennis courts, the weeds are drying out and are way too tall. Hope you can talk to the city. I know they don’t have the time or budget to take care of it.”
Dear reader, the following is a response from City Engineer Rick Smelser, Director of Public Works for the City. We hope you find this helpful:
“The area in question has been treated by the City as an extension of the Miller Slough area rather than as a landscaped area of a city park. This means the area has received seasonal maintenance as opposed to other areas of the park which are maintained weekly. The area was maintained earlier this year and is due again for seasonal creek maintenance; however, due to the concern raised by the caller for weed control within the park, the City will increase weed control in this area and other parts of Miller Slough that are within the park to a weekly basis and will address the current weeds this week.”
