posted 86.1 points to claim the third position
Megan Nebesnick’s first place in the all-around catapulted the Gilroy High varsity gymnastics team to victory in the opening meet of the season, finishing atop Tracy, Kimball, West and Christopher on Tuesday night in Tracy.
The Mustangs completed the four-event meet with a combined score of 121.8, edging Tracy (120.15) by a slim margin. The Cougars posted 86.1 points to claim the third position and West grabbed fourth with 56.5.
Nebesnick, a sophomore, took first on vault (8.65), beam (9.0), and floor (9.0), which all contributed to her clinching the all-around with a 35.25.
CHS’s Caitie Shannon finished in a close second in the all-around with her 34.1 points. Shannon, who is also a sophomore, tied for first on bars (8.7) with Gilroy’s Alexa Ferguson. Ferguson grabbed third in the all-around and Fatima Magallanes placed fifth for the Mustangs.
Both Gilroy and Christopher are lead by head coach Nikki Anagnoston.
