To simplify the golf swing is often difficult at best. The two exercises that I use with most of my students are designed to let you know where your hips and hands are at two key points during the swing.

At the top of your backswing your hips should rotate about 1/4 turn. To achieve this, pretend that there is a rope attached between the end of your grip and your left hip. As you take the club away, your hip goes with it. At the top of your backswing, your hands should be over your right shoulder with the shaft of your club pointing at your target.

On the downswing, your right hip now swings into the ball just as the club would. The hip and shaft “shadow” each other as they come into the hitting area. At impact, the hips are still starting to open and your arms are extended at the ball. To finish, your hips are facing the target and your hands are over your left shoulder.

So just practice this hip motion and your hand position and these simple fundamentals will guide you to a great golf swing.
